So there i was browsing the good ole net looking for pictures of Vincent's when i happened accross a 1939 picture of a rather nice rapide.. in front of a house that looked familiar.
Getting out my 'file' on the Comet, the house in the background of the picture i have is exactly the same as the one on my screen. The article confirms my suspicions.. the bike was originally owned by a guy that became a TT (Isle of Man) winner in the 1950's!.
On a 'hunch' i looked up the name in the phone directory to find one listing, in the right area... and dialed the number....
A rather sprightly 88 year old answered and after introducing myself, told him my little story about the two pictures. "Did you own a Comet"? i asked... "Oh yes...FG something was the registration...".
Yep, i tracked down the owner of the bike who bought it new in 1938!
